Definition

Kadence is a fast WordPress theme with its own header and footer builder and a library of starter templates you can import as a whole site.

In plain English

It sits in the same family as Astra and Blocksy: light, builder friendly, and giving you the header and footer the builder does not.

Its distinguishing feature is the starter library. Rather than starting from an empty page you import a complete site and rewrite it, which is a faster way to work for a small project.

Why it matters

For client work the starter templates shorten the awkward first phase, where a blank site makes it hard to have a conversation about design.

Its blocks also work well with the block editor, so it is a reasonable choice on a site that is not using a page builder at all.

How it works

  1. You install the theme and starter pluginBoth free, from the WordPress directory.
  2. You import a starter siteChoosing whether to bring the demo content or just the design.
  3. The header and footer are built visuallyIn the Customizer, in drag and drop zones.
  4. You replace the contentThe imported pages are ordinary pages, edited as usual.

Imported demo content is still demo content

Delete the placeholder pages, images and menu items you did not keep. Leaving them is how a live site ends up with a stray page about a fictional yoga studio.
