Rank Math is a WordPress SEO plugin that manages your titles, descriptions, sitemaps and structured data, and scores each page as you write it.

In plain English

It sits under the editor and gives you the two things that matter: control over what search engines see, and a checklist telling you what is missing on this particular page.

It does the same job as Yoast. The differences are the interface, how much is in the free version, and which one you find less irritating to work in every day.

Why it matters

WordPress on its own decides your page titles from your post titles and offers no description at all. An SEO plugin is what makes those editable.

The scoring is useful as a reminder rather than a target. It catches the missing description and the heading you forgot; it cannot tell you whether the page is worth reading.

How it works

  1. A setup wizard covers the basicsSite type, your details, sitemaps, and what to index.
  2. Each page gets a snippet editorTitle, description and how it will look in results.
  3. A sitemap is generatedAnd kept current as you publish, for submitting to Search Console.
  4. Schema is addedStructured data marking a page as an article, a product, a recipe or a video.

Switching from Yoast keeps your work

Rank Math imports Yoast’s titles, descriptions and settings during setup. Run the import before you start rewriting anything by hand.
