Email List
An email list is the set of people who have given you permission to write to them directly, stored with an email service rather than on a platform you do not control.
In plain English
Followers are borrowed. A platform decides who sees your post, and it can change that decision overnight without telling you. An email address is yours: when you write, it arrives.
The list lives with a provider like MailerLite, ConvertKit or Omnisend, who handle the sending, the unsubscribes and the legal side. Your website’s job is to collect the addresses and pass them along.
Why it matters
Every creator who has been doing this a while says the same thing: the list is the asset. Channels rise and fall, algorithms change, and the list keeps working.
It is also the only channel where you can reach the same person twice on purpose. Someone who watched one video is a stranger. Someone on your list is an audience you can build on.
How it works
-
You offer a reason to subscribeA checklist, a short course, a template. Something worth an address, not just a box saying subscribe.
-
A form collects the addressOn your site, connected to your email provider through a plugin or an API key.
-
They confirm it is really themDouble opt in sends a confirmation mail, which keeps your list clean and your sending reputation healthy.
-
You write to them regularlyA predictable rhythm beats a brilliant email once a year. People forget lists they never hear from.
Own the export
Whatever provider you use, make sure you can export your subscribers as a file whenever you want. A list you cannot take with you is not really yours.
